2019 Gala Highlights

Bruce Burpee

Bruce spends his days volunteering at South Seminole Hospital and at Ohev Shalom Synagogue. He is one of our communities’ best volunteers as he is always agreeable to do something with a smile on his face. He is a retired Army veteran and to this day is an avid ham radio operator!

Fayge S. Cohen

Fayge volunteered for the Hevreh Kadisha (burial society) and has selflessly given her time to the organization for the past 40 years. She has been an active member of Hadassah and in addition to that, she also worked as the Secretary of the Central Florida Jewish Community Council when their offices were at Kinneret.

Rose Ellen Fenster

Rose Ellen is an active and passionate senior who has been a RAISE job coach for over 2 years. Through her involvement, she has improved the lives of adults with disabilities, helping them to learn the work and social skills needed for successful employment in our Central Florida community.

Key Howard

An award-winning actor, Key authored and performed a radio program called “Ain’t Life Grand” where he shares his advice for people who think life has passed them by and are on the downslope. He helps people realize how simple it is to rediscover a passion for life and why it’s never too late to “get up and do it.” Key uses fact and fiction to entertain audiences with tales that reflect humor, family, personal responsibility and integrity.

Joel Jones

Joel holds a master’s degree in Psychology and has always had a passion for helping children. Upon retiring from the Airforce after 30 years of service, he began his second career creating programs for adolescents dealing with drug addiction, later moving on to the terminally ill, until he eventually founded New Hope for Kids which is a grief facilitation program for children.

Sonja Marchesano

Sonja was a young girl in Germany at the start of WWII. Her father was released from Buchenwald after 10 weeks and had to leave the country with his family within 24 hours for England. She has educated people of all ages in schools and through the Holocaust Education Center about those years. She is an upbeat person who never says no to anyone or any organization that needs her assistance.

Sandra Moss

Sandra founded Tickets to Go, Inc., a travel agency, which she operated for 25 years. She set a great example for the community that women can be successful in running their own businesses. She has been an active member of Temple Israel where she served as sisterhood President. She is a lifetime member of Hadassah and continues to be an active member.

Gilbert Walker

After retiring from a 40-year career as a pediatrician, Gil has been actively involved at Ohev Shalom serving on the board and chairing the Adult Education Committee for many years. He is proud to have been Bar Mitzva’d at the age of 73 after a trip to Israel.
