We want to keep our residents as informed as possible. Find answers to some of the questions you may have regarding the upcoming sale of the Kinneret Apartments.
The Kinneret Board does not intend to sell Kinneret Apartments to anyone that would not allow the current residents to remain in their current home.
Both Kinneret Apartment Buildings will remain affordable under the current HUD programs for each building.
If you are a resident of Kinneret I, you have been informed of the new PBV rent subsidy program through the Orlando Housing Authority. Refer to the information from Kinneret’s management about this program, to ensure that you are aware of the application process currently in process.
If you are a resident of Kinneret II, the rent calculations for each resident at Kinneret II will remain the same and continue as part of the Section 8 rent subsidy program as administered by HUD. This is the same program that has been in place since the opening of Kinneret ll in 1974.
The rents for the individual apartments are set by the above HUD subsidy programs that apply to each resident's lease. This is a commitment for the term of the lease that your rent will not increase.
The Kinneret Apartments were built in 1967. We are sure that you see the need throughout the buildings for renovation and modernization, as does our Board. The Kinneret Board has determined that the best path for Kinneret’s long-term success is to sell the property to an experienced affordable housing owner who has greater capacity and access to capital for building rehabilitation.
There are many reasons that the Kinneret Board of Directors has explored selling the property, the most important of which is determining how Kinneret can maximize the impact of its mission - to enhance the lives of older adults in the Jewish and secular communities - in a fiscally responsible way. It is ultimately the Board’s responsibility to take the steps needed to ensure that Kinneret Apartments continue to provide affordable housing in the best manner, including the update and modernization of the buildings and property.
As of April 26, 2021, Kinneret Apartments have not been sold. However, Kinneret Board leadership have signed an agreement to engage interested and appropriate buyers. There are many steps that must happen for a sale to be completed. It is the Kinneret Board’s intent to carefully work through the many steps for a successful transition to a new owner.
Affordability of the apartments is the Board’s PRIORITY. It is the Board’s intention to uphold its enduring mission and commitment to provide affordable housing to income-qualified older adults. With this mission in mind, our goal will be to work with the new owner to allow the programs and services provided to the residents to continue including:
The day-to-day operations, programs and services to the residents will continue as scheduled, with the best practice CDC safety guidelines in place. Applications for residents of Kinneret I for the new PBV rent subsidy program will continue. KCOA will continue to offer all the same services enjoyed by the residents throughout this process. And it is our goal to continue providing services to the Kinneret Apartment community for years to come.
